Peter Murphy, Tremont Music Hall, May 3. It was the best of times, it was… actually, really the best of times.


For awhile, it appeared the bleak was inheriting the musical world – reality stars turned auto-tuned pop primadonnas, “rock” bands with no instruments, grown women fainting over pre-pubescent boys with matching haircuts. Thankfully, it seems something about 2013 has been drawing quite a few rock’n’roll gods out of their hiding places (David Bowie, Depeche Mode and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, to name a few, have all released new albums not even six months into the year) like a pack of guitar wielding Super Friends. Even despite this, I somehow didn’t expect to see Charlotte, NC listed as one of Peter Murphy’s stops on his 35 years of Bauhaus Celebration Tour. Oh but it was, and how!
